Justine Henin-Hardenne Sweeped Off Kim Clijsters from the Roland Garro
Justine Henin-Hardenne eased through the Roland Garros Final for the third time in her career, after beating fellow countryman Kim Clijsters. Even if she got in the semis without losing one set on the road, Kim Clijsters had to pay the consequences of her poor serving, losing both sets without having a strong reply. Double faults, second services and poor returns have caused her defeat, even though she was considered the rightful contender for the big prize. Henin, however, managed one of the best matches so far in the tournament, playing, as Clijsters put it "very, very well indeed". She went ahead and rallied in the first set 6-3, while the second was just a confirmation of her great form, 6-2. Managing a very good serve, while her other strong points went just as they should have, Henin couldn't have been more pleased with the result. "I tried to put a maximum of pressure from the start. I served well, it was essential. I did not shiver in the key moments. I forced her into rallies and I know she does not like that. Now I really have to stay focused because there is another big match on Saturday. It's quite something as I can win my third Roland Garros", said the five-seeded Henin. On the other hand, Clijsters remained speechless at the press conference. She only managed to praise her opponent's game, even though she looked very sad. After her main rival, Amelie Mauresmo, went down in the fourth round, this would have been a great chance to nail the first place in the WTA race.
Henin will go ahead and meet Svetlana Kuznetsova in the final. The russian showed some remarkable tennis in the semifinal against young sensation Nicole Vaidisova, recovering from one set down. The final score, 5-7, 7-6, 6-2 will see Kuznetsova try to take her second Grand Slam trophy in her last 2 years. The final will take place on Phillipe Chatrier arena, on Saturday
