Italy Won for Pessotto!
Germany, pay attention! You are about to meet a team which is luckier than you. That's the conclusion after the quarterfinal between Italy and Ukraine. And the first half was not a premise for what happened during the mid-game. The 5th minute was already showing a 1-0 advantage for Italy. Actually, the Ukrainians had to pay attention from the beginning, when Camoranesi had a great scoring chance in the first minutes of the game. Zambrotta did the same as he did and scored the opener, with a perfect shot from about 30 meters. Things seemed to get pretty clear. Or, at least, that's what we all thought. The first half brought no danger at all to Buffon's post. Not only that the Ukrainians did not send one shot on target, but they didn't even get closer than 30 feet to Buffon's post. The half-time brought a great change in the East-Europeans' play. They started putting pressure on Buffon's post and could have produced a stunning performance. The 57th minute brought what could have been the Ukrainian chance to get back into the game. The Italian goalkeeper managed to save a tremendous shot by Gusiev and Zambrotta blocked Kalinishenko's attempt to even the score. That was it for Blokhin's players. You can't just mess around with scoring chances like that. You know that they're only going to come back and haunt you afterwards. And, against the Italians, that's just a fact. Only one minute after that, Totti produced a wonderful cross and Toni managed to score his first goal in the World Cup. After managing to become the top-scorer in Serie A, it was just a matter of time until he could get his name on the scoring list for Italy. The third goal came after a wonderful offensive action from Zambrotta, who passed the same Toni and gave him the chance to put another one on the scoreboard. The final minutes brought nothing but a very confusing game. The match ended like everyone predicted. With Italy on the winning side. And it's not that they didn't deserve it, but they also had a lot of luck on their side. The Italian flag, with Gianluca Pessotto's name on it, was taken al over the field by Cannavaro. Germany, you're next. Let's see who will be the lucky team this time.
